We place great emphasis on creating the right ethos for learning. Children work and play hard, strive for excellence and are encouraged and rewarded for achievements, effort and good behaviour.

Within a happy atmosphere, we value and develop all the skills and talents of individual pupils. Teachers use a broad range of teaching strategies to ensure children remain focused and challenged, with the arts, sport, languages and STEM subjects promoting ‘all-round’ development. Academic examinations and tests are important, but young children really need to be properly prepared for the next stage in their education.  We believe in strengthening the ‘whole person’, with broader skills and positive attitudes.

The Reception class attends for a full day; wrap around care is available.

The children’s academic progress continues into our Reception class, where we encourage them to become independent learners.  Our children thrive in the carefully structured hands-on learning environment where we provide varied experiences at each child’s developmental level which we believe encourages academic success.

Pupils are provided with academic and developmental building blocks, enabling them to make a positive start to life at school.  They learn to listen, sit properly, take instruction and work on small group projects and tasks.  Numeracy and literacy skills are essential, and we consolidate these alongside a stimulating and creative learning programme which includes sports, music, drama, dance, Forest School and Spanish.  These lessons are taken by specialist teachers which enable us to combine the best elements of teaching with the ability to be able to learn through play as well.  Our pupils are encouraged to learn self-sufficiency, and we promote old-fashioned manners such as learning to look adults in the eye when they are talking to them and say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’!

Each child is given the opportunity to reach their full potential in whichever area they excel in and to help them build confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Our curriculum is broadly based. Teaching groups are small, so that staff can develop a deep understanding of all their pupils. We provide extension work to stretch the most able and learning support for those who need it. We pride ourselves that all children are given encouragement and helped to reach their full potential.

In Reception and Key Stage 1, we develop reading and writing, numeracy, creative talents and social skills. Emphasis is also placed on engendering enthusiasm and curiosity. Children are encouraged to develop tolerance, patience and kindness towards each other and they are introduced to other countries, cultures, and creeds.

Initially class teachers deliver most of the curriculum, ensuring a sense of security for each child. Specialist teachers for MFL, PE, ICT, Music, Dance, Drama and Forest School all contribute to enrich the child’s learning experience.

In Years 5 and 6, additional subjects are delivered by specialist teachers, handling the more demanding needs of Key Stage 2. Form Tutors retain pastoral responsibilities, monitoring progress and reviewing it regularly with parents.

The main aims by this stage are to consolidate and develop the basic work in English and Mathematics, whilst never underestimating the importance that all the other subjects play in the overall well-being and personal development of the child.
